How do we help businesses?

The quick (and a little broad) version is that we help you become more data-driven by getting the answers you need out of your data by putting it into dashboards and doing analysis on it for you.

We use that performance data (ex. financial and marketing data) to help influence your future strategy, leaning into what's working well, and improving what's not working well.

If you know there is value in your data, but hate digging through it (the annoying part), we build a custom tool or dashboard for you that will handle the annoying part for you, and just show you the answer you want!

Easily seeing your data helps you know ALL of your numbers and make
data-driven strategic decisions.

Why do we do it?

After years in the corporate world, we realized that we weren't making enough impact on individual people and needed to change that.

Helping and working with people is what drives us, so we'll help you make great, financially sound decisions, but also have some fun working together!

We've put our big business skills to use for all of you small businesses - efficiently managing, visualizing, and analyzing your data to extract valuable insights and make data-driven decisions.

Alongside all of that analytical power, we build strong relationships with our clients as well.  After all, Pineapple Consulting Firm was formed on the basis of working with people - not just numbers.

We aren't going to tell you how to run your business, we just want to help you run it better.

Seeing your numbers for the first time!

As a successful Maine-based architect with a few contractors that work with her regularly, she is a true business professional. In her own words though, she is "certainly not a financial or numbers person".

She charges an hourly rate for her work, but works on 20+ projects at any given time. They all have fluctuating hours worked, revenue generated, budgeted hours, margins, etc. Without a solid system of tracking these ever changing KPI's, she found herself over budget and inadvertently leaving earned revenue on the table.

She had never seen the full picture of her operation (even while running close to a half million dollar operation!)

After implementing Pineapple's Excel dashboard that put everything in one place for her (revenue, gross margin, billable hours, hours worked vs hours budgeted, financial performance, effective hourly rates, etc.) she was able to see everything she needed in a single view with pinpoint accuracy.

Going from just an overall sense of how business was doing to tracking her exact metrics at any given time was a game changer! She hasn't gone over budget since choosing to work with Pineapple!

Saving 8 hours a month!

Our first ever client is a family insurance agency business based in in Connecticut. The owner would spend a whole day manually typing info from one spreadsheet to another. He was trying to create a summary view of what his month looked like financially.

A full day!!!

Pineapple took the existing spreadsheet, revamped it, and built a dashboard based off of it.

Now the same process takes 10 minutes instead of 8 hours, and Mike has a fully functional, beautiful dashboard that allows him to actually see his numbers

Standing your ground!

A VA based transportation company and a long time fractional analyst client, runs a ~25 person company delivering packages for a large corporation as a contractor.

Every quarter, the corporation would come in and bully him and other contractors to fit their new rates or new thoughts on how small businesses should be run. Sometimes they were wrong about their ideas and even their own data!

For a while, it was just their data (sometimes flawed) vs his word.

That changed when he decided he wanted some dashboards and brought on Pineapple!

With an in depth financial dashboard and accompanying operations dashboard, he now knew every piece of data imaginable in his business. From then on, when he went to the negotiation table with the large corporation, he was able to fully back up his argument, prove their numbers wrong when he needed to, and show them exactly what's happening.

Who knew data could level the playing field between a family run shop vs an international behemoth!

Winning a Cool Award

In 2021, Jack Tompkins won the pretty neat award of Young Entrepreneur of the Year!

It was through an organization called the Best of Small Business Awards which is also partnered with the Small Business Expo organization.  They are a large national organization that has events and groups across the country and awards businesses in a variety of different categories.

Jack was honored to be the sole winner of Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the age of 27 after all the votes were counted.

Why are we "Pineapple" Consulting Firm?

Well, we don't consult pineapples, so this is a pretty fair question.

It's true that pineapples are a welcoming sign and a symbol of Southern hospitality.  For example, when you get a new neighbor in the South, traditionally, you're supposed to give them a pineapple as a welcome to the neighborhood.

That factors in, but the real reason is because pineapples represent vacation to us.  Sipping a pina colada out of a pineapple on a beach... ah.  Our goal is to save small business owners enough time, or make them enough money so that they can actually take a vacation like that and not have to worry about work for a few days - just focus on the beach they're on and what drink they're ordering next.

We want to help you get here!

Jack Tompkins
Managing Partner

When I started Pineapple Consulting Firm, the main thing I wanted to do was help and work with people, but I couldn't just offer a nice conversation as a service.

So I put my two strengths together - analytics, so that I could provide a highly important service to businesses that don't have resources for it, and combined that with my relationship management skills that are really the backbone of the service.  Helping people with important work and even better service.

I've been a leader, an analyst, and managed relationships between Fortune 500 companies.  Being able to combine all of those roles together into one business that much more directly impacts people is a dream come true.  Pineapple Consulting Firm takes the best pieces of corporate America and puts that knowledge to work for business owners in our community.
